|Welcome students and families!
It's great to start the school year here at Century! I'm enjoying meeting and working with your sons and daughters. This is my fifth year at Century, my twelveth year in the district, and my 33rd year as an educator. I will be working primarily with seventh graders but may also have some eighth and graders in my classes.
My class schedule includes a team-taught Math Labs for 7th grade, team-taught Literacy Labs for 7th and 8th grade, and two Transitions classes which will focus on developing organization and study skills.
The focus is on developing organizational skills, as well as good work and study habits. It is also a time when students are supported in applying those skills to the assignments they have in their classes. Students are graded on a daily 5-point system which is as follows:
- 1 point - arrive on time to class
- 1 point - have agenda book filled out
- 1 point - bring necessary materials
- 2 points- use class time productively
In Lit Labs we will focus on improving students' reading and writing skills. Instruction is driven by goals and objectives in the students' IEP's and is intended to support the development of the skills needed to succeed in English classes. Most work will be done in class, although there may be occasional homework assignments. Students will earn grades based on their performance on class assignments, as well as quizzes and tests.
The Math Lab classes provide additional instruction and support to students and are intended to help students develop the math skills needed to succeed in the general education math curriculum. Grades are based on classroom performance, daily assignments, and quizzes/tests.
The year has gotten off to a good start, and I have seen the seventh graders do a great job of making the transition from elementary to junior high. I hope students and families are following up regularly by checking grades on-line and staying in touch with teachers. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns you may have. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children.
