| In 9th grade Physical Science we study the fields of both chemistry and physics. In chemistry we look at the properties of matter, what it looks like, and how to change it. We study the chemical elements, how they are similar, how they are different and how to combine them to make new things. In physics we take a look at forces, motion and energy. We also cover one of my favorite topics, electricity. I have a lot of fun things in store for you. You will do lots of laboratory activities that will give you the chance to see the concepts we study first hand. These activities will give you a glimpse into how science applies to your every day life. I will also give some demonstrations that will make you think and a few may even make you jump! As for me, I’m from Texas, just south of Houston. I worked there for 17 years in chemical plants. I started as a bench chemist, then laboratory supervisor. Later I worked with the EPA and OSHA on environmental and safety issues. I worked as a shift foreman and emergency responder and finished that part of my career as Manager of Health and Safety. I am really happy to be at North View and look forward to seeing you in my class! |
